EPIC HEROES II
This companion issue to Epic Heroes focuses on four epics whose heroes are national symbols. The Finnish epic, Kalevala, was compiled from ballads and lyric poems just over a century ago. The life and exploits of Spanish prince Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, better known as el Cid, and Sundiata of Mali are also profiled. The stories of Aeneas and Le Araucana, the work of Spanish nobleman Alonso de Ercilla y Suniga, complete the selections. Activities include a recipe for medieval bread and a word scramble.
