Visual essays detailing the three basic phases of Stonehenge and how builders might have moved the great blocks of stone introduce you to this fascinating world of megaliths erected thousands of years ago on the Salisbury Plain in England. With so many theories about the who and whys of the site, we decided to focus on two ideas that are the most credible: the Wessex chieftains as the builders and the site as an astronomical observatory. However, since Stonehenge and the Druids are so often linked together, we explain the origins of the linkage and also the continuing involvement of the Druids at Stonehenge today. The "From Past to Present" department follows the legal proceedings as Stonehenge went from public property to private property to a national landmark and World Heritage site.
