Pretend that you are Paul Revere acting as a recruiter for the Patriot's Militia (army). The Militia was made up of colonists who were fighting for freedom from British rule. Write a speech that convinces other colonists to join the Patriot's Militia. Be sure to include good reasons (factual ones) for joining your side and what kind of activities they can expect to be involved in.

Pretend that you are Dr. Benjamin Church acting as a recruiter for the Loyalists. These were people who were loyal to the British King and did not want to be separated from England. Write a speech that convinces other colonists to be loyal to the king. Be sure to include good reasons (factual ones) for joining your side and what kind of activities they can expect to be involved in.

Brainstorm ideas with others in your group who are on the same side. Decide which reasons and activities each person will describe in his / her speech. This will ensure that you aren't repeating each other. Use this sheet for organizing your ideas for writing. Draft a speech and share it with a partner on your side. Revise your speech and write a final copy.
